A couple of days before 2022
Narrative
After witnessing a strange, traumatic incident involving a patient, a psychiatrist becomes increasingly convinced that she is being threatened by an extraordinary entity. on September 30, the film’s cast appeared at various baseball games while sitting down. dead behind home plate and grinning at the camera, motionless, though the fans in the audience are understandably concerned, wearing smiley t-shirts. Not long after, another appeared in the background with the crowd during the Today show. About 31 minutes later, when the alarm goes off, Rose breaks the glass. When the glass is shown at her feet, she is wearing stockings.
Rose Cotter: Who are you?
Seconds later, she’s wearing lace-up shoes as she checks the door. Depending on what happens later in the party, there are some continuity issues that may not be “bugs”. but may actually be intentional to show "breaks" In Rose’s consciousness/sanity. why are you doing this to me Monster: Because your mind is so seductive. This is NOT fear!
LollipopWritten by Beverley Ross & Julius Dixon Performs The Chordettes. I was pretty excited about this movie, I won’t lie. I wasn’t expecting an 11-time Oscar-winning masterpiece, but I was expecting an intense, edge-of-your-seat scare like Insidious; or “Sinister,” where the film is filled with eerie unease from beginning to end. 'Smile' isn’t it What a 'Smile' decent jump scares, but unfortunately (and more importantly) the 'Smile' forgets to provide a scare in each of these sequences that repeat over a 2-hour period. For example, the main character will be looking down a dark hallway until the music builds up and the camera slowly zooms in, and then the phone rings SO LOUD. It’s just plain lazy and most of all annoying.
THIS is a valid jump scare
These "jump scares" occur throughout the film and are very unpleasant. I can respect jump scares if there’s actually something scary at the end of the build-up and not just an obnoxiously loud noise that has nothing to do with tension that was just wasted. An example of a REAL jump scare would be when the Lipstick Demon first appears at the table in Insidious. The plot of “Smile”; and the way the characters unfold it is almost identical to The Ring. No new ground was broken, which was expected, but I was at least hoping for a little more originality than the copy/paste story of 'The Ring' with a large amount of 'It follows' copied as well, but is much smaller than both of these films. I thought it was a pretty good ending with the demon finally revealing itself.
Overall, this movie has been made before and was MUCH better
The design of the demon and what it does to its victims is actually pretty great/terrifying. Unfortunately, by the time we meet the smile demon, the movie is over. It’s a shame, because this movie could have been a balls-to-the-wall freezer. The result of this movie was the best part and the scariest part. The music reminded me of Sinister’s music because there was something unusual about it that made it unsettling. Has moments but drags on without any fear for too long.6/10.
