Barbe Nicole died at the age of 89
Narrative
The history of the Champagne family and Veuve Clicquot, which began in the late 18th century. The comet that Barbe Nicole mentions in her letters and later uses as inspiration for her Champagne brand is the Great Comet of 1811, formally named C/1811 F1.
Haley Bennett plays Clicquot quite well
But she actually died at the age of 88. The supporting cast is okay, but other than her performance, no other actor or actress is memorable.
I would have liked to see more scenes of how hard she had to work beyond just watching her mix ingredients in bottles
There is a lot of dead time in this movie, probably because the only real purpose of the movie is to show her having to overcome the politics of the time with Napoleonic laws and men who believed that a vineyard was not fit for escape. I think the final court scene had a lot of potential and could have been used to tell her story in more detail about what she had to go through, but instead it was decided to just be an exclamation point to her story.
However, it’s certainly not a product that you’ll be wowed by
On a side note, all the accents are very British, which is confusing to me considering they are French. Overall, it’s not a bad film and shows that individuals can overcome their political surroundings.
