Psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud invites professor C.S. Lewis to discuss the existence of God, Freud’s unique relationship with his daughter, and Lewis’s; unconventional relationship with his best friend’s mother.. Lewis in Shadowland (1993) 30 years before this film.. Lewis is shown researching the gospels while being called by a woman who appears to be his wife to bed him.

The film is set in 1939, but Lewis did not marry Joy Davidman Gresham until 1956. The woman was actually Janie Moore, with whom Lewis lived until 1949. [last lines] Sigmund Freud: From mistake to mistake, it is revealed the whole truth .. Featured on The 7PM Project: April 19, 2024 episode (2024).
"Freud’s Last Session" comes as to big disappointment for me

This fictional meeting between the revolutionary psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud (Anthony Hopkins) and the writer C.S. Lewis (Matthew Goode), in the early days of the Second World War with the first German bombers arriving in England, does not cause the audience to wonder about what they are trying to grasp while themselves they challenge the nature of man and whether God exists or not (Freud is an atheist; Lewis is a Christian believer). Adapted from Matt Brown’s play, the material is poorly translated to the screen which doesn’t allow for a solid 15 minutes with both characters alone in their session without constantly going back and forth between some background moment of each character, or some present situation with bombing threats or Freud’s ill health that requires the constant care of a daughter, about whom we have some tense revelations about her relationship with her domineering father.
One kind of expects this to be psychoanalysis and not some weird chat between famous authors of opposing views
And they tried so hard to make a plot about this character and her secretary that it was irritating – especially if you know that while Freud didn’t condemn homosexuality as a moral issue, he didn’t want them around him (read Paul Roazen’s works on him) . For the life of me, since it wasn’t actually a session, I still have no idea what Lewis was doing there. Verbal duels are the moments we wait for, there are so many interesting bits and exchanges between them, but overall everything falls flat because either the dialogue is not that brilliant; the editing makes it all look like a tennis match – there’s not a single moment for a monologue or a plot sequence; and the constant detour of past moments that tries to build some character or show some backstory, but it’s all inactive and tiresome. A film that works with such ideals and challenges about humanity, God, religion and human relationships, while being against or in favor of everything that must have some coherence between plot and dialogue, in order to create something that we in the audience may have wondered about or about what we didn’t think about.
Jackson and Tommy Lee Jones
It has to create some excitement even if those issues are not that exciting (to some) and stay in "boring" playback format without interference. If there’s a play and film adaptation that captured that feeling brilliantly, it was “The Sunset Limited,” starring Samuel L. Simple through the actions while staying in the room of a small apartment and the brilliance of the complex dialogues becomes a fascinating and fascinating experience. Hopkins and Goode don’t share the same dynamic despite being good performers.
